UNLV Percussion offers three distinct ensembles that bring value to students and community every year.
PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE
Where the essence of percussion thrives.
Percussion Ensemble is the heart of our program. This is where students learn to communicate, express, and develop their skill in an all-percussion environment that cannot be replicated. It is our flagship ensemble that features a year collaboration concert with moving lights and theatrical elements each spring in our Black Box Theatre.
MARIMBA BAND
Portable jams all around town.
Our busiest performing ensemble, the Ragtime Rebels Marimba Band exists in multiple formats. From a small 3 on 1 marimba band playing popular music to a large, vaudeville-style ragtime band, this ensemble focuses on learning how to arrange, the history of South American marimba band legacy, and much more.
STEEL BAND
Our Hawaiian shirt budget is enormous.
Rebel Steel is a hot commodity in Las Vegas, frequently performing at Lake Las Vegas and around town. Bringing high energy and fun to every event, it's an exceptional way to develop your knowledge of Trinidadian Steel Pan music and world percussion.
HAND DRUM ENSEMBLE
Hard to pronounce, even harder to play.
Our newest ensemble course, lead by master drummer April Centrone, focuses on the unique instruments of the Middle East and Mediterranean. Egyptian, Moroccan, Turkish, and other cultural instruments and frame drums are the focus of this course. It is one of the most immersive ensembles offered at UNLV!
